The ultimate idea is to save the consumer money by charging itself during off-peak electricity times. This allows the homeowner to use the cache to power their home when energy is more expensive (peak time). By way of a smartphone app, the user can switch between power sources, or even sell cached power back to the grid during these times of higher demand. Using solar panels as the energy source makes an *xStorage* unit an even greener solution. Nissan is differentiating itself from competitors by using old EV batteries in its *xStorage* units, making them even more environmentally friendly. But this isn’t the first time Nissan has given new life to used batteries, having partnered with businesses on other **[commercial energy storage projects](https://sable.godaddy.com/c/24007?id=202522.15734.1.2a14c2d4edb50798a1bde2d8742ff600)**. The new *xStorage* system will be Nissan's first foray into the residential market; however, at this time there aren't any plans to bring the home battery to the US.
