A recent study in the journal Nature Energy has found that the impact of global renewable energy efforts has saved both money and lives in a nine year period, 2007-2015. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing dependence on solar and wind energy sources, air quality in the U.S. has improved overall, but varies by region. Across the globe, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that air pollution causes around 3 million premature deaths per year, but 92% of those deaths occur in places where air quality does not meet WHO health standards.

However, in the U.S., where particulate pollution was down in 2015 by 27% from 1990 levels, that was not the case. The study goes on to say that due to the solar and wind endeavors in the United States, we saw a 20% drop in Carbon Dioxide and a 46% decrease in fine particulate pollutants.
