Smart Lighting In US Cities

Energy Savings September 23, 2017

Indianapolis officials announced that the city will spend $12 million to update more than 27,000 street lights, which will save the municipality an estimated $800,000 annually.

The city will pay Indiana Power & Light to convert 27,240 street lights to LED lights over three years. The savings from the project will be used to add another 4,000 LED street lights throughout the area.

Other US cities have embraced the energy efficiency of LED streetlights as well. Just this month, Phoenix officially began its city-wide initiative to replace all 90,000 street lights — plus lighting at its park facilities — with LED bulbs. By replacing all existing street lights with LED bulbs, the city expects to achieve a total net savings of approximately $22 million through 2030.

In July, the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, FL announced it is upgrading its LED lighting — a move that is expected to cut energy consumption at the cultural arts center by 75%. The Kravis Center facilities team partnered with Green Energy Advisors to improve their current LED lighting situation.
LED upgrades have also benefitted property owners and operators.

California condominium association has seen an 80% reduction in energy costs just one month after installing LED lighting.
